SINGLETON Parish Council has heard that recent police crime figures don’t represent the true status in and around Singleton as not enough people report crimes and suspicious incidents.
Following the theft of prize heifers and a bull at Weeton we should all be on the lookout for suspicious transporters of any kind. Not just transporters, though – any suspicious incident, of any kind, should be reported. Numbers to contact are Blackpool police (293933) in the first instance or anonymously either via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or Lancashire police on 0845 125 3545.
Simple way to report things
Any resident can now report street lights not working, fly-tipping, or potholes in the road simply by emailing reportit@singletonparishcouncil.org . Parish or borough councillors will pass your complaint onto the relevant authorities.
Traffic issues
Pat Douglas from LCC has said that LCC would not be able to afford to install a mini roundabout at the end of Mile Road. Steps may be taken to make the 30mph limit more obvious.
The matter of new white lines being painted on Station Road is being looked into.
Gritting
Singleton Parish Council was concerned about the lack of gritting on many of the parish roads, apart from Mains Lane. LCC has a statutory duty to keep all A and B roads free of snow and ice, but this means rural and side roads are neglected. To add to the problems, gritting material was in short supply. We’ve asked LCC to provide salt bins at strategic points, and if the request is refused we will be investigating the costs of new salt bins to help reduce the risk of accidents.
Weeds
Cllr Chew met FBC officials on 16th December to look at the weed problem around the village and was told the weeds would be treated at the next available opportunity. Mile Road will have an extra sweep next year and there should be a new cleaning machine by April.
Council launches gardening competition
We’re launching a Singleton in Bloom competition, to be judged to coincide with the Church’s 150th anniversary celebrations. There will be four classes – best large front garden, best small front garden, best child’s garden, and best hanging basket. Puzzle Wood work begins again
Dave Kay and his band of volunteers are planning to plant more trees and hedging and to clear paths. New gates are being commissioned for installation before the church’s 150th celebrations. If you are over 18 and would like to help, please contact Dave.
Precept 2010/2011
The precept will be set at £13,377. This will be an increase of £1.70 per household.
Ongoing work
Our workplan for 2010/2011 includes enhancements throughout the village, as well as flowering tubs in Little Singleton. We’re also installing a new noticeboard. If you have any ideas for other enhancements, we’d be delighted to hear from you.
Car rally through Singleton
On 5th & 6th February a goup of North West Motor Clubs is organising a car rally in aid of charity, starting and finishing at the Norbreck Castle Hotel. But it also includes timed tests at Weeton Army Camp – which means rally cars will be passing through The Village on 6th February between 1.20pm and 3.20pm and also between 4.40pm and 6.40pm.
