As temperatures start to rise, so to do opportunist sneak-in house burglaries as people are more likely to leave their doors and windows open to ventilate their properties. The most common opportunist summer burglaries involve: •Entry through an insecure front door whilst residents are in the back garden.
•Reaching through open windows to remove items of property.
•Entry through insecure doors at night while residents are asleep.
Summer Burglary Crime Prevention Tips •Keep ground floor windows closed at night and lock all doors.
•When in the back garden make sure the front of your house is secure.
•Keep unattended ground floor or accessible windows shut and locked at all times.
•Keep all valuables out of sight and away from windowsills and open doors.
•Lock away your tools and garden equipment at night into a secure garage or shed as they could be used to break into your home or your neighbours.
•Lock bikes in sheds/garages.
•Consider fitting outside security lighting or a visible alarm to deter burglars.
•Keep your garden fences in good repair.
•Lock side/rear gates.
Remember – insurance companies often will not pay out if a burglary is as a result of an insecure door or window.
